City of Kokomo declared Feb. 11 as 2-1-1 day in honor of United Way. City Controller Milton Beach signed the proclamation Tuesday afternoon and inspiring City of Kokomo to Live United. 2-1-1 is the help hotline for United Way and has been a source of strength for Kokomo during 2013’s natural disasters. During a Monday luncheon, United Way announced its agencies would receive increased funding after its 2013 campaign raised $20,000 more than expected.
Mayor Greg Goodnight meets with state’s mayors
Mayor Greg Goodnight joined 49 other mayors Tuesday in our state’s capital as an effort to put a stop to Governor Pence’s legislation that’d eliminate taxes on business equipment. Gov. Pence said he wants to eliminate business tax equipment in his recent State of the Union Address; however, mayors of Indiana cities and towns said the tax elimination would negatively impact their communities. The “Replace Don’t Erase” campaign orchestrated by Indiana mayors is urging Pence to keep the business equipment tax – which distributes $1 billion to local governments, schools and libraries – or replace the revenue lost from the tax.
