January 2014: More of a rascal than we thought

January 2014 delivered inches and inches of snow, making it the second snowiest January in Indiana history. Nearly 30 inches of snow fell in Central Indiana during January. Plus, we saw eight sub-below temperatures during January’s 31 days. The only snowier months in Indiana were: January 1978, March 1906 and December 1973. Although the average snowfall for Indiana is 25.9 inches – Indianapolis measured 26.9 inches of snow alone during January 2014.

Stay sane in the snow: Build a snowman.

January gave us reasons to bundle up and build snowmen, so we might as well have fun with February snowfall. As the snow starts Tuesday afternoon, there’s no better way to spend it other than building a pal who loves this weather. While typical buttons and scarves are a good way to spend a winter day, one can always add some flair to Mr. Frosty. Here’s how: Mix water with a drop of food coloring into a spray bottle and color your snow people. If you need some inspiration, check out the world’s tallest snowman, Olympia. The 113-foot gal was built in 2008. Olympia ditched the traditional snowman buttons for car tires and had snow skis for eyelashes. Get to building, because you’ll never run out of snow this week!
