UPDATE: New findings in Kokomo Central Garage Fire

Kevin and Lindsay in the Morning interviewed Greg Goodnight, City of Kokomo mayor, Thursday morning about Tuesday’s Kokomo Central Garage Fire.

According to Goodnight, the fire’s cause is still being investigated but the fire’s source has been pinned down.

“We believe one of the vehicles in the garage was the source of the fire,” Goodnight told WWKI-FM Thursday morning. “The diesel engine [in one of the vehicles] under this kind of weather can stay heated and that may have been related [to the fire].”

Goodnight said although six of the 15 Spirit of Kokomo buses were destroyed, city employees were proactive in which vehicles to save.

“It says a lot about our employees, a lot of them went in before the building was engulfed and got the newest buses out first,” Goodnight said.

Goodnight added the 20-year-old garage didn’t store much else besides the buses.
