What’s America’s favorite sport?

Concussions? Deflated balls? Minor suspensions for horrible domestic abuse caught on tape? It’s still not enough to slow down the NFL.

Harris Interactive just released the results of their annual survey on the most popular sports in America. As always, pro football came in number one.

Thirty three percent of people say the NFL is their favorite sport. Major League Baseball came in second, with 15 percent. Back when the survey started 30 years ago, the NFL only had a one percent lead, 24 percent to 23 percent.

College football came in third, with 10 percent NASCAR was fourth, with 6 percnet and the NBA and NHL tied for fifth with 5 percent. That’s a rough spot for the NBA, which was getting 13 percent of the vote in the mid 1990s.

The rest of the top 10 are men’s soccer, men’s college basketball, men’s golf and boxing.

We assume that boxing got votes from people who are fans of UFC and mixed martial arts — that didn’t get its own category.
