WWKI On Air Staff
Chris Kiefer
Like many of his fellow staff members, Indiana native Chris Kiefer says his earliest memories revolve around the radio. Chris was born in Crown Point and grew up west of the Culver area. "By the time I was 7 years old I was singing along with some songs on the radio," he said.
Radio remained a constant source of fascination in Chris' life. " I have always had the desire to entertain - wise cracks in school, I love to sing, got to play drums and sing with a country band for two years - but I realized that the way I could be closest to the music industry was to work in radio," Chris said. He found it immediately addictive and he loves being on the air.
Radio jobs intertwined with stints in the Marine Corps, insurance and estate planning industries. People like Larry Lujack, Paul Harvey and Earl Nightengale inspired Chris through their abilities to entertain and tell stories.
One of the funniest things to happen to Chris in the radio business was a particular contest where he was the prize. "The winning family got to have me as a guest for Thanksgiving dinner," Chris said. The experience turned out to be the beginning of a lifelong friendship for Chris and the winning family.
Chris is most proud of WWKI's community involvement - and also getting to know a pair of memorable gentlemen. "I'm grateful that I was able to work with Dick Bronson and Charlie Cropper before they passed into history," he said.
