In Memory of
Charles B. Cropper

June 19, 1946 - February 24, 2009
WWKI's radio family is mourning the loss of Charlie Cropper. Charlie joined the WWKI family in 1969, spending 18 years as the host of the morning show and nearly 40 years as co-host of Male Call. On July 30, 1987, Governor Robert Orr appointed Charlie a "Distinguished Hoosier." The next day, in honor of Charlie leaving the morning show to be a full-time sales representative, Mayor Stephen Daily issued a proclamation naming the day "Charlie Cropper Day" in the city of Kokomo.
The proclamation reads, in part, "Central Indiana has grown accustomed to his familiar wake up voice, spontaneous jokes, and contagious giggles, and Charlie Cropper's departure from the air waves of WWKI is sadly received, and Charlie's contribution to his profession and this community is greatly appreciated."
Those words, now even more strongly punctuated by his passing, are even truer today. At the age of 62, Charlie left us too soon. He will be missed by all of us.
You can listen to the podcast of the special Male Call broadcast from 2/24/2009 by clicking the link on the right side of the page. We invite you to share your thoughts and memories of Charlie here.

(4/16/2010 3:39:35 PM) When I first started selling radio for Shine 99 radio in 1988, Charlie was a force to be reckoned with. What a powerful person in his industry and the community. I always admired his wonderful talents and his respect for all the media players in the Kokomo market. The radio industry has lost a very talented professional. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and the Kokomo business world. Val Abram |
